Contempt of court petition: Secretary Auqaf Punjab summoned on May 30

The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Friday summoned Secretary Auqaf Punjab on May 30 in a contempt of court petition challenging closure of shrines by 8pm in violation of the court orders. Syed Waqar Hussain, the petitioner, pleaded that the respondent secretary after twin suicide attacks on shrine of Hazrat Data Gunj Bakhsh (R.A) last year had ordered to close all the shrines in city by 8pm.
He said this action was challenged before high court and the court had set aside the same. The court had directed the authorities to ensure security of the shrines visitors instead of closing them, petitioner said. He stated that the Auqaf Department ignored the court order and continued to close shrines by 8pm, which amounted to contempt of court. He sought proceedings under contempt of court charges against the respondent secretary.
