Specialised training and capacity building of police force is imperative for rooting out the menace of terrorism, eradication of crimes and maintenance of law and order, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Wajid Ali Durrnai here on Friday.
"Islamabad Police have always showed professionalism, courage and determination in facing the challenges of terrorism and in prevention and detection of terrorism cases," the IGP said while addressing the concluding session of Anti-Terrorism Assistance (ATA) Course and Joint Graduation Ceremony on Crisis Response Team (CRT) and Identifying and Developing Investigative Information Courses (IDII).
The US trainers including Robert A. Clark, Resident Programme Manager, Dan Habib, Deputy Programme Manager, Billalobos and Edward Magno, the lead Instructors have provided training to police officials from four provinces and Islamabad regarding the quick response to terrorist activities.
DIG (Headquarters) Ahmed Mukaram, SSP Headquarters Zubair Ahmed Hashmi, SSP (Trafffic) Dr Moeen Masood, SP Headquarters Abdul Ghaffar Qaisrani, DSP Bakhtiar Ahmed Lillah, DSP Headquarters Ashraf Shah and other police officials were also present on the occasion.
The Anti Terrorism Assistance (ATA) has been playing a vital role in training Islamabad Police officers in particular and police officers and officials from other provinces in general, he said.
The ATA has trained 2292 officers and officials in tactical and non tactical courses from all over Pakistan including Islamabad Police and this is a great effort and achievement on the part of ATA in enhancing the capacity building of the law enforcement agencies in Pakistan, the IGP maintained.
Durrani expressed hope that the participants of Crisis Response Team (CRT) course (25 police officials, 12 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 13 from Islamabad Police) must have learnt a lot during their training under the guidance of Billalobos, the Lead Instructor and his team. The IGP thanked the instructors and trainers for their keen interest in imparting professional training to policemen. It is to mention here that participants during this tactical training have been provided hands-on outdoor firearms training, raid and assault simulations, and other standard crisis response skills for use in an urban environment.
