At least 32 people were killed and 60 others injured in a powerful car explosion near Hangu police station and the District Police Officer (DPO) office, here Thursday. Talking to media, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kohat Division, Masood Khan Afridi confirmed the loss of 25 lives in the explosion. He said about 400 to 450 kilograms explosive was used in the attack.
It was second consecutive attack on police station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On Wednesday, terrorists targeted CID police station in a sensitive area of the provincial metropolis that took 9 lives and more than 36 people were injured. Most of the dead and the injured were police personnel.
Terror incidents have registered a sharp increase after the killing of al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in US operation in Abbottabad. Banned outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan has threatened to take revenge of the killing of OBL and has declared Pakistan as the enemy number one.
In Thursday's attack, the terrorists used a double-cabin pick up that was exploded on Hangu-Thall Road near Hangu police station, Masood Khan added. He said the DPO and the DCO are supervising the relief efforts. The death toll may increase as the condition of several victims was stated to be critical. The dead and the injured were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital where an emergency was declared.
