NICL Scam: Supreme Court expresses displeasure over performance of DG FIA
The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday expressed displeasure over director general federal investigation agency (FIA) Malik Muhammad Iqbal who failed in bringing back Zafar Ahmed Qureshi in compliance with the apex court order to investigate National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam.
While hearing a contempt of court matter against DG FIA in NICL case, the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry observed, "This man has undermined authority of the court adding that who permitted him to write a letter to transfer Zafar Ahmed Qureshi".
Counsel of DG FIA Makhdoom Ali Khan told the court that Malik Muhammad Iqbal wrote 5 letters to establishment division last on May 24 for approval of the summary for Qureshi's posting to FIA for supervising NICL investigation, but no action has been taken so far.
The bench observed that court was showing restrain following the law and not against DG FIA, so it would be better for him to show progress in the case otherwise he will face the contempt of court proceeding. The bench summoned director FIA Moazzam Jah and adjourned hearing till May 27.
