Japan earthquake: airborne radioactive Iodine in small traces detected: PAEC

Like many other countries, including China, United States, South Korea, UK, Scotland, very small traces of airborne radioactive iodine believed to have originated form the crisis-hit Japanese Fukushima nuclear power plant have been detected in Pakistan as well.
Because of the large distance form Japan and air mixing along the path, the radiation reaching Pakistan is extremely diluted. The amounts of radioactive iodine detected in Pakistan are tiny and billions of times lower than levels that could be of any consequence to public health or environment.
Therefore, no precautionary measures of any kind are needed. The detection has been made possible only because of the highly sensitive surveillance systems used for this purpose by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, says press release issued by the commission.
