Skipper Pakistan cricket team Shahid Afridi has supported the idea of appointment of cricket legend Javed Miandad as batting coach of the national team. Talking to reporters at Qaddafi Stadium after meeting Chairman and members of selection committee, Afridi said team badly needed a batting coach.
"The Board is negotiating with Miandad and I fully support the idea," he said. According to him, senior players including Kamran Akmal should be given complete rest during upcoming tour of West Indies and Zimbabwe. Opportunities to new players be created during foreign tours to give them exposure.
Afridi also urged announcement of team for West Indies team, adding he has extended his input to the selection committee on selection. According to him, the team for this tour should be a combination of senior and junior players. Answering a question, he ruled out his return to Test cricket.
On retirement of Shoaib Akhtar, he said Shoaib was a great player and filling his vacuum would take long. He added that Shoaib was kept out of World Cup semi final due to his fitness problem. Meanwhile, sources apprised Business Recorder that Miandad has not given his consent to join team as batting coach for upcoming tours abroad. Tours to West Indies and Zimbabwe are for short period and he would set up special camp for batting improvement of team players on the return of team.
