Hundreds of students protested Tuesday at Kabul University against the burning of a Holy Quran by a US church. In the fifth day of anti-US protests in Afghanistan, the students chanted slogans like "Death to America and Jews." Students from different universities gathered at the university premises Tuesday morning, calling on the US government to bring pastor Terry Jones, who oversaw the burning on March 20, to justice.
"This is an inhuman and despicable act against all Muslims throughout the world," Naser Tayeb, one of the demonstrators told the German Press Agency dpa. "We will continue protesting unless the church preacher is tried in the court." "We want a peaceful demonstration," Tayeb, a student of Islamic law at Kabul University, said, adding they would extend their protests to other universities and the capital as well. At least 23 people including seven foreign staff of the United Nations have been killed and nearly 150 civilians and police injured in four days of demonstrations.
