PTV licence fee

The masses are being fleeced in Pakistan by all and sundry, be it the government or the corporations, institutions, shopkeepers or the mill owners, without any check or control under the consumer protection regulations in vogue. Against this backdrop, it is heartening that the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has initiated an inquiry into the PTV licence fee, charged along with the electricity bills.
The fee, being charged unlawfully for many years without any rationale, has been arbitrarily increased recently from Rs 25 to Rs 35 per month. This is yet another example of consumer abuse - and, ironically, by the two government organisations, IESCO and PTV. One hopes that the CCP is able to provide some relief to the public.
