A total of 257 cases of possessing illegal arms were registered, as compared to 141 cases during the corresponding period of last year, besides recovering 219 pistols, 18 guns, six rifles, four Kalashnikovs from the nabbed persons during the period. Moreover, Capital Police have registered 264 cases of drug pushing, as compared to 158 drug peddling cases during first three months of the year 2010, while recovered 136 kg charas, six kg opium, 2.5 kg heroin and 2940 bottles of liquor.
As many as 106 proclaimed offenders, 329 court absconders, 55 car thieves and 33 habitual criminals have been arrested, as compared to 40 proclaimed offenders, 54 court absconders and 14 habitual criminals. While eulogising the force performance, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan said Capital Police have always performed diligently and respond quickly to SoS calls.
The performance of the capital police can be gauged from the fact that number of arrests and detection of crime in the capital is more than any other district police across the country, he maintained. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Wajid Ali Durrani after reviewing the crime situation directed for evolving an effective strategy against criminals and to bring necessary amendments in existing patrolling and security plan, the SSP said. Khan said that under new strategy patrolling vehicles consisting of Falcons, Commando Vehicles, Police Stations Vehicles and Motorcycle Eagles were provided walky-talkies, so that the police officials should communicate with the nearest base control.
The SSP said that patrolling vehicles in different locations keep changing their positions on instructions from their in-charge or the senior police officers, as per situation. Every Falcon/Eagle Squad, Commando Vehicles and Police Station vehicles remain in-position for swift Change over response, he added.
