The two-day first "International Conference on Business Management" under the theme "Business, Academia & Government Partnership for a Better Future" begins here on Monday (today). The University of Management and Technology (UMT) is organising this two-day conference as part of UMT Idea Exchange 2011 to contribute its part to help get Pakistan out of the prevailing economics crisis.
Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Shahbaz Sharif will be the chief guest at the inaugural session while Guard Group Chairman & Saarc Chamber of Commerce Vice President, Iftikhar Ali Malik will be the guest of honour. Textile Institute Manchester UK World President, Andreas Weber, Aall Pakistan Textile Mills Association Chairman, Ejaz Gohar and UMT Rector, Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad will also address the inaugural session.
Under UMT Idea Exchange 2011, three conferences are being organised together including first International Conference on Business Management, third International Conference on Textile and Clothing and Conference on Islamic Civilisation - Potential and Challenges. Around 35 research papers will be presented in 12 academic sessions of the business moot.
The conference comprises two tracks: Academic Track, and Corporate Track. The academic track includes Management, Economics, Finance, Human Resource Management, and Marketing & Information Systems. The Corporate Track comprises of presentations of renowned business tycoons on the hot topics of business-related current affairs.
The conference aims at capturing the knowledge, both theoretical and empirical which will assist in preparing organisations to manage business under the prevailing circumstances in the country. It will provide a forum for discussion on key issues relating mainly to business, economics, finance, and society.
The conference will help, firstly, in identification of strategies for improvement of policy effectiveness in business and management through research.
Secondly, it will help in identification of key constraints to progress in post-crisis global regime and thirdly for development of interaction with foreign scholars and researchers essential for the enhancement of global knowledge and to bridge knowledge gap on national stakeholders.
Some of the important topics of the conference included: Determinants of Food Price Inflation in Pakistan, Export Price Competitiveness and Exchange Rate Risk in Pakistan's Manufacturing Sector, Evaluating Human Capital with Intellectual, Social & Emotional Capital, Globalisation Trade Liberalisation, Trade Flows and Economic Growth by Using CGE Model, A Comparative Study of Organisational Climate and Job Satisfaction in Public, Private and Foreign Banks, Management of Pakistan Higher Education in Emerging Scenarios, Determinants of Performance: A Case of Life Insurance Sector of Pakistan, Similarities, Differences and Emerging Trends in Higher Education Ranking Criteria: Using Interpretative Research for the Process Analysis of Critical Evaluation, Impact of strategic leadership on organisational commitment in telecommunication sector of Pakistan, Plastic Money in Retail: An Indian Experience, Volatility Spillover between Stock Returns and Foreign Exchange Rate changes: Evidence from Three Saarc Countries, Capital Structure Determinants: An Empirical Study of Food & Personal Care industry of Pakistan, The Determinants of FDI: A Case Study of Pakistan (FY81-FY09), Strategic Evaluation of Public Sector Universities in Pakistan
Organisers of the conference say that those who are participating in the conference include CEOs, and heads of international and multinational companies, policymakers, government officials for corporate sector, social sector, development experts, academicians, researchers, economists, financial institutes, social sector organisations, NGOs, human resource development professionals and trainers and university scholars of Ph.D/M.Phil/MS level.
The conference was previously scheduled on January 5-6, 2011 but it was postponed as the funeral prayers of Salman Taseer (Late), Governor Punjab was on the same day. The delegates, who had arrives from 11 countries, had to go back, however, their papers will now be read at the conference.
