Desecration of Holy Quran: JI for Muslim world foreign ministers' meeting

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), while strongly condemning the desecration of the Holy Quran by an American pastor in Florida, asked the government to convene an emergency meeting of the foreign ministers of the entire Muslim World to register serious protest at the international level and devise a joint strategy to stop the repeated sacrilegious acts.
Speaking at news a conference on Thursday, JI Secretary-General Liaqat Baloch termed the desecration of the Holy Quran as "ideological terrorism" of the US and the West, which should be condemned in the strongest words.
He said that though President Asif Ali Zardari has condemned the incident in his address to the joint sitting of the Parliament, which is not enough. He demanded of the government that the matter should be raised at the UN level, besides convening an emergency meeting of the foreign ministers of the Islamic countries not only to condemn the sacrilegious acts, but also to chalk out a joint strategy to hamper its reoccurrence in the future.
"Pakistan is the victim of the US terrorism. Don't we have the right even to register a protest at the government level against the incident?" he asked, and also announced that all the religious parties including JI would hold country-wide protests against the desecration of the Holy Quran on March 25 (Friday) after Juma prayers. He said that protest rallies would be held in all major cities of the country, while Ulema would deliver special sermons in mosques ahead of the Juma prayers.
He further announced that JI Amir Syed Munawar Hassan would lead a similar protest rally on March 27 in the federal capital against the desecration of the Holy Quran as well as the release of American contractor Raymond Davis.
He said that the rally would also be attended by activists of the other religious parties, representatives of the trader organisations and civil societies.
While condemning the release of Davis, Baloch accused the federal and Punjab governments as well as the country's intelligence agencies of connivance with those who made his release possible, which is a matter of concern for the entire nation.
He also asked the Federal and Punjab governments to explain as which principle of Islamic Shariah was followed in releasing Davis through Diyat and also tell the whereabouts of the victims' families.
About the targeted killing incidents in Karachi, the JI leader held the ruling coalition partners PPP, MQM and ANP responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation in the metropolis.
He also urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the targeted killings in Karachi. He further said that the JI would also hold all parties conferences in Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore on the issue in the coming days. Referring to the US drone attacks in tribal areas, Baloch said that innocent people were being killed in the attacks, while the rulers including the Army Chief were reluctant to take practical steps to stop violation of the country's sovereignty.
