Alstom to cut 1,380 jobs

French engineering giant Alstom group on Tuesday announced plans to cut 1,380 jobs in Germany, Italy and Spain from its transport division "to address the lower demand in these countries".
The planned job cuts are "focused on some industrial sites of (Alstom's) transport sector in Germany, Italy and Spain", the company said in a statement. Its German operation will suffer the biggest cut, with 700 jobs going from its Salzgitter factory in northern Germany to "address the necessary improvement of its competitiveness and its insufficient expected workload".
