Protection of intellectual property rights: speakers call for socio-political change

Speakers at the Intellectual Property Rights Conference-2011 have said that it is not merely the government's action or legislations, which could protect and promote products of intellectual property, but it is the people's mindset and attitude, which should be changed for combating the menaces of counterfeiting and piracy.
The day-long moot on intellectual property rights was organised by Global Media Links in collaboration with Business Milestones, here at a local hotel on Saturday, under the themes; IPR: An international perspective, realisation, and implementation; and counterfeiting and piracy issues related to intellectual property. Speakers representing government, corporate, industrial, and technology sectors shed light on various law-enforcement, legislative, and social issues hampering the due protection and upholding of IPR in the Pakistani society in general. They were of the view that government, non-governmental, and private sectors in the country should combine their forces in order to wage an effective and consensus drive against largely unchecked menaces of counterfeiting, copyrights violations, and piracy.-PR
