The legislators of the Balochistan Assembly on Monday expressed grief and sorrow over the colossal loss of human lives in Sorrange coalmine blast and called for stern action against those who showed negligence which led to the death of about 50 coalminers in Pakistan Mineral Development Authority's mine.
Deputy Speaker, Matiullah Agha presided over the session. Talking on point of order, Balochistan Minister for Irrigation and Power, Sardar Mohammad Aslam Bizinjo said that he along with other ministers visited the place of blast but there was no rescue team to take out the miners trapped in the mine. "The sheer negligence by the PMDC authorities led to the loss of human lives, he deplored adding stern action must be taken against those who did not pay attention towards the warning of accumulation of methane gas by the mining department."
Provincial minister, Ehasan Shah said that Balochistan was enriched with mines and minerals but we don't have latest equipment, machineries and facilities to cope with the Sorrange like mishap effectively. He emphasised the need for evolving a concerted strategy for the mining sector so that the loss of human lives be mitigated in future.
Balochistan lawmakers including Shahnawaz Mari, Asad Baloch, Nasreen Khaitran, Abdul Samad Akhwandzada Asfand Yar Kakar, Habiur Rehman Mohammad Hasni, Ghazal Gola also expressed grave concern over the loss of human lives in Sorrange blast and demanded immediate probe into the matter so that the responsible be brought to justice.
"The investigation into the tragic incident be initiated and the responsible whosoever they should be taken to task, they said adding the concerned department must ensure provision of ample facilities and maximum safety to the coalminers and must not allow any contractor to excavate coal unless they get safety clearance." Earlier, Finance Minister, Mir Asim Kurd Gailu informed the house that a committee has been constituted which would probe into the incident and prepare its report by 25 March. Deputy Speaker adjourned the session till Wednesday (tomorrow).
