Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch, has welcomed the appointment of Pakistan Railways' new General Manager, Saeed Akhtar, with the hope that the new management would take every possible step to salvage the important national institution and make it stand on its own feet.
He said that the Pakistan Railways was on the verge of destruction because of corruption, mismanagement and anti people policies and was running into losses to the tune of billions of rupees. The situation, he said, could be improved through untiring efforts of an honest and competent management with the co-operation of the Railway employees.
He said that provision of maximum possible facilities to the travelling public besides resumption of the trains that had been suspended due to paucity of funds was imperative to enable the Railways play its role for public welfare and national development.
