HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares closed flat on Monday, giving up earlier gains amid lingering concerns over last week's European debt plan as well as fears over a slowdown in mainland China.
Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng Index dipped 10.57 points to 18,575.66 on turnover of HK$44.30 billion ($5.69 billion).
Chinese shares closed down 1.02 percent. The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, was down 23.72 points at 2,291.55 on turnover of 36.5 billion yuan ($5.8 billion).
