The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Wednesday sought report from Home Secretary Punjab and police high-ups in a writ petition of PML-Q Punjab-chapter general secretary and leader of opposition Chaudhry Zaheerudin challenging police action against his party workers at the behest of PML-N led provincial government. The court directed the respondents to file reports fortnightly and also summoned Gujrat district police officer and SHO police station Rehmania on next date of hearing.
The petitioner through his counsel pleaded that police arrested dozens of his party workers particularly in Gujrat since the PML-N made government in the province. He alleged that all the arrests were based on political victimisation. He said on January 19 last in an incident occurred in Gujrat Chamber of Commerce & Industries, workers of PML-N tortured his party workers. He alleged that the workers of PML-N even thrashed injured workers of PML-Q at hospital where they were admitted for medical facility.
He said police lodged cases against the victim party (PML-Q) instead taking action against the accused persons belonged to PML-N. Petitioner said an application was also filed before Gujrat sessions judge for registration of cases against accused persons but the same was dismissed.
He said the police was conducting raids to arrest PML-Q workers following registration of fake FIRs. Chaudhry Zaheer prayed to the court to restrain police from arresting his party workers at the behest of PML-N led government and release them immediately. He further prayed that the fake cases against his party workers be withdrawn and the police be directed to take action on his application.
