China dominated the finals of the Korea Open badminton championship in Seoul on Sunday, sweeping four titles in the sport's richest-ever tournament. In the men's singles, China's Lin Dan defeated arch-rival and defending champion Lee Chong-Wei from Malaysia 21-19 14-21 21-16 in a 73-minute duel, taking home $90,000. Total prize money in the tournament was $1.2 million.
It was the third time Lin, who had beaten the world's number one Lee to win gold at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games in November, had taken the Korea Open crown. China also prevailed in the women's singles with Wang Yihan defeating Wang Shixian in straight sets 21-14 21-18. Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli of China won the women's doubles title over their compatriots Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei 21-18 19-21 21-4. In another all-Chinese match, Zhao and Zhang Nan beat Tian and Tao Jiaming in the mixed doubles 21-17 13-21 21-19.
South Korean duo Lee Yong-Dae and Jung Jae-Sung were the only non-Chinese winners, defeating Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen from Denmark in the men's doubles. Lee and Jung retained their title by beating the world's number one pair 21-6, 21-13 in a 33-minute final.
The Korea Open is one of five Premier Super Series events hosted by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the sport's global governing body. Men's and women's singles champions get 90,000 dollars each, while men's, women's and mixed doubles winners earn 94,800 dollars per pair.
