Lahore High Court here Friday adjourned to February 11 the hearing of a writ petition challenging appointment of Sardar Latif Khosa as Governor Punjab and directed petitioner to delete name of cabinet division from the list of respondents.
Deputy Attorney General, Nasim Kashmiri and Additional Advocate General, Zaka-ur-Rehman had appeared before the court and opposed the petition, saying it is not maintainable as based on mere allegations that were never proved. They further argued that governor enjoys immunity under constitution, therefore, no proceedings could be initiated or continued against him.
Earlier, petitioner Nawaz Cheema pleaded that Latif Khosa was not eligible to be appointed as governor because he was removed from the office of Attorney General of Pakistan on the directions of Supreme Court in view of the corruption charges against him. He further said Khosa, as advisor to prime minister on information technology, committed massive corruption. He stated that a person facing serious allegations of corruption, misconduct, nepotism and bribery could not be eligible for appointment as governor.
The petitioner pointed out that Lahore High court had held Latif Khosa a man of professional misconduct in two cases and had directed subordinate judiciary throughout the province not to take notice of any order or document referred by respondent unless a certified copy of such order is produced.
