The federal government is all bent upon imposing more and more taxes on poor people of Pakistan in the name of revenue generation and increase the revenues to meet their expenses. They are trying to impose RGST which would ultimately land on the poor and middle class of the society, who are already hard hit and feeling pinch of inflation with rampant unemployment.
A highly prestigious institution's annual report for June 2010, shows the extent of mismanagement and corruption. The revenue receipt for June, 2008 was Rs 1403 billion, which increased to Rs 2052 billion in June 2010 with Rs 1679 billion for June 2009. In other words the federal government colleted Rs 925 billion extra revenue just in two years of June 2009 and June 2010 from poor people which worked out as follows:
====================================
(Rs billion) (+ Inc)
====================================
June 2008 1,403 -
June 2009 1,679 276
June 2010 2,052 649
====================================
TOTAL 925
====================================
The above figure shows that there is increase of 66 % in revenue collections for two years when compared to June 08. It may be noted that the total taxes imposed in 61 years from 1947 to 2008 has Rs 1,403 billion whereas in just two years, they burdened the poor masses with Rs 649 billion worth of additional taxes ie 66 %.
The average taxes increase in 61 years was Rs 23 billions per year from 1947 to 2008 whereas the average taxes increased in two years, ie 2008 and 2009, was Rs 325 billion per year, which is over 14 times more than the average tax increase in the last 61 years. Yet all the public money is going into invisible dark holes with no relief to common man.
On the other hand the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) has been slashed and misappropriated. The poor people have paid extra taxes of Rs 925 billion in two years, whereas the PML-N, which speaks about principles and high moral grounds against corruption, has failed to convince even its leaders to pay taxes and avoid burdening poor masses. It should account for the Raiwind Palace expenses and compare tax payment of Rs 5,000, said to have been paid by Nawaz Sharif and tell all its leaders to pay taxes and set an example for others to pay taxes' before advocating to put burden of taxes on poor masses.
The question for the poor masses is where is our tax money of Rs 2,052 billion gone? Where is Rs 925 billion extra taxes collected during the last two years? Poor middle class masses are praying and looking eagerly towards judiciary and army to save them from mismanagement, corruption, unemployment and inflation.
