National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sindh has arrested Sohail Hassan, Chief Executive Officer of Cargo Aids Private LTD on the allegations of criminal breach of trust and misuse of authority in connivance of PIAC officers by defaulting rupees 195 million payable to PIAC by the cargo company of which initially four bogus cheques amounting Rs 132 million were issued.
According to a statement issued by NAB here on Thursday, the bureau took cognisance of the case on a compliant against M/s cargo in November 2007. The company has been working since 1976 as cargo sales agent of PIA for marketing of passengers and cargo transport services. M/s cargo defaulted in making payment of Rs 195 million payable to PIAC. This default was made in collusion with officers of PIAC by making gross violation of rules, notifications, circulars, administration's orders and sops time to time issued by the competent authority. PIA officials allowed the credit to surge beyond the limit in violation of rules/policies.
On 22 October 2007, PIAC suspended its business dealing with M/s Cargo Aids. It suspended services of two employees namely Aftab Ahmed, DM and Ibrahim Noor FM in October 2007, action taken as token. Internal audit of 2001, 2003 and 2008 cited recurring instances of dishonouring of cheques by the company. Investigation is still in progress with more revelations to surface. Presently, main accused Sohail Hassan has been arrested in compliance of warrant of arrest issued by DG NAB Sindh. The accused has been remanded to NAB's custody for 14 days for further investigation.-PR
