Message from General Secretary (2010-2011) Karachi Customs Agents Association

I extend my warm greetings and felicitations to the Members of the Pakistan Customs fraternity on the auspicious occasion of International Customs Day being celebrated by World Customs Organisations and the Customs administration of the World on January 26, 2011.
The international trade practices have under gone a major change in the globalise economy. This globalisation has brought a significant change in Customs Operations and their role in the current scenario. Customs apart from being a revenue collecting agency is also responsible for facilitating the International trade and protecting the economical rights of the society. All the objectives of a vibrant Customs Administration can only be achieved if there exists a strong and positive partnership and a shared vision between Customs and the Businesses involved in the International trade and International supply chain.
Pakistan Customs enjoys an extraordinary importance and rare distinction of managing, facilitating and dealing with the huge external trade of the country. The exports side of the trade however, gets place and priority in the Customs. In this regards FBR has also created a special and separate structure at the exports side of the Customs department.
An avid look at the historical perspective of the Pakistan Customs reflects that this national service has always cherished two main objectives, which are "Trade Facilitation" and "Revenue Collection". This is hallmark of Pakistan Customs that it has always given precedence to trade facilitation, having full comprehension of the fact that it always leads to greater revenue collection. Phenomena of trade facilitation either on import or export side has attained such tremendous importance in recent times that it has almost become buzzword.
I would like to convey my felicitations to the customs staff who have worked hard putting in extra efforts to ensure smooth flow of trade despite all odds. I strongly believe that together we will make Pakistan Customs the best service in the region.
