Taiwan shares closed down 0.7 percent on Thursday, with semiconductors and electronics underperforming as investors took profits after tech shares fell in the United States and Europe. Fund managers said they did not yet see foreign funds leaving Taiwan, even though the market had retreated from the highest close in two years and eight months on Wednesday.
The TAIEX index fell 63.85 points to 9,022.17. Semiconductor shares dropped 1.33 percent while electronics shares fell 0.93 percent. The financial sub-index was down 0.32 percent.
