Ready to appear before religious board: Rana Sanaullah

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has claimed that he is ready to present himself before Ulema (religious scholars) and clear misconceptions regarding his controversial statement.

Speaking to ARY  News said on Monday, Sanaullah further said that if the protesters had included his resignation along with former Law Minister Zahid Hamid’s in their demand, then he too would have resigned.

The law minister added that he trusts the names of religious scholars put forward by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan and is ready to present himself before a board constituted by the religious party.

The protesters in Lahore are currently demonstrating at Faisal Chowk former Charing Cross, in front of Punjab Assembly. The protesters, under the patronage of Tehreek Sirat-e-Mustaqeem founder Ashraf Asif Jalali, refuse to budge from their sit-in despite successful negotiations between government and Faizabad protesters.

Jalali and his followers demand the resignation of Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and want his appearance before the court of Sunni Ullema. They also demand disqualification of all parliamentarians involved in the proposal of the amendment in Khatm-e-Nabuwwat clause.

The protesters have urged the government to release the name of the ‘mastermind’ who hurt religious sentiments of Muslims, local media reported. Jalali has asked his workers to continue the sit-in for the third consecutive day and wait for the future course of action.

On Sunday, more than 1,000 protesters had gathered outside and surrounded the office of Sanaullah. They pelted stones at the policemen stationed there and in response the police resorted to tear gas shelling. The law minister, however, was not present at his office, local media reported.
