The pillion riding ban, which was clamped down on Sunday night with the aim to contain target killings, has become lucrative source of income for law enforcers, as over 330 citizens were detained for its violation on Monday. Citizens have expressed resentment over the decision, saying the law enforcers instead of nabbing target killers are trying to catch the violators of the ban just to mint money from them.
However, the police said the Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza had imposed ban on wall chalking, pillion riding, display of weapons, aerial firings, etc to maintain peace in the city. Police have so far arrested over 330 people for violations of the ban from different parts of the city and seized some 80 motorcycles.
As per details, some 20 men were taken into custody from Gulberg, 65 men and 22 bikes from Saddar Town, 39 men and 18 bikes from New Karachi Town, 40 men and 20 bikes from Liaquatabad, 39 from Jamsheed Town, 50 from Clifton, 10 from Orangi Town, 41 from Keamari and 30 from Orangi Town. Although, the restriction on pillion riding is aimed at to avoid any untoward situation in the metropolis, the same has so far appeared ineffective for the purpose but creating problems for citizens.
