Madina Welfare Trust, a local charity organisation Saturday offered dowry for the girls' of flood-affected families of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. The offer was made by chairman of the trust Jehanzeb Sabri while addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club (PPC).
He was flanked by president of the dowry committee of the organisation, Haji Raja Anwaar Ahmad and general secretary, Mohammad Sohail Karimee. Sabri said that the committee has unanimously decided to provide financial assistance to flood-affected families on the occasion of their weddings. Such families would be provided complete dowry sets, he added.
Elaborating, he said a complete set, worth rupees 40,000 to 45,000, comprises of Al-Qur'an, prayer mat, double bed, dressing table, two chairs, quilts, fan, sewing machine, iron, attache case, five suits, sweaters, towels, socks, plastic dinner sit, water set, tea set, hotpot set, cutlery set, utensils, tubs, thermos and water cooler.
Application forms for the offer are available from Waqar Shoes, Qissa Khwani and a restaurant at Kali Bari, Peshawar Cantonment, and could be obtained on any working day from 9:00AM to 1:00PM and submitted after approving it with the office. The dowry set would be provided purely on merit after completion of inquiry by the trust.
The trust invited resourceful people to join them in provision of assistance through provision of goods included in the list. The flood-affected families of Punjab have been asked to contact the office of the trust in Rawalpindi.
Established in 1984, the organisation, besides providing free textbooks to the deserving students of the province, had arranged dowry for thousands of girls. An English medium is also being run under its supervision, imparting free education to the children of destitute families. The trust, since its inception had distributed dowry amongst 3,625 girls. It provided dowry to 225 girls in a single event in its series of such programmes.
