The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to start what it says ruthless accountability to bring important political personalities and bureaucrats into the accountability net, but closed the inquiries against Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar due to 'inadequate evidence'.
The NAB Chairman, Deedar Shah, in Executive Board Meeting on Wednesday gave final nod to the file of corruption references against important persons from Punjab and Balochistan, including PPP leaders and former minister Baz Mohammad Kehtran and Zafar Iqbal Magsi former DCO, for misappropriation of public funds.
The NAB Board, which met here with Deedar Shah in the chair, also approved to file references against eminent politician Saeed Ahmed Qureshi for bogus claim on account of flour milling charges from Government and Muhammad Rashid Khan, former Director/Superintending Engineer, Wapda, for exceeding level of assets. Addressing the meeting, the NAB chief stressed the need for deciding the cases on merit, irrespective of political affiliation. He said that across the board accountability would help to bring complete transparency in the economic affairs of the country.
The NAB Board also ordered to re-inquire a very important case of Khurram Javed for misappropriating public funds and against Muhammad Younis Marwat, an employee of NBP, who was on deputation to Development Bank of Afghanistan as EGO with stress to expeditiously complete these inquiries.
Due to lack of substantial evidence, a 16 years old inquiry against Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar was closed. Similarly, other inquiries against Falak Khursheed, former DIG, Karachi, and officials of CAA for land acquisition of new airport at Rawalpindi were also closed. The Board also approved the plea-bargain request of Abdul Rashid, former XEN, Wapda, and Khalid Rehman, former Chairman of Muslim Industrial Co-operative Corporation Ltd.
