Some nine more suspects of the Shershah scrap market carnage that claimed fourteen lives and wounded several others surrendered before Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sindh police on Tuesday. According to police sources, these nine suspects have not only surrendered themselves before police but also confessed the said crime, which was made on the direction of prime suspect Baba Ladla over extortion issue.
These nine suspects include Akbar, Abdul Latif, Tufail, Asghar, Ejaz, Abid, Iqbal, Tahseen and Jauhar, who after successful negotiation with the investigation officer of the SIU Inspector Mir Aslam surrendered themselves without weapons.
On December 22, 2010, three suspects Shafi Mohammad, Aslam Pervez and Nawaz Ali were arrested by Rangers from Lyari and one Lal Mohammad Magsi had surrendered himself to the Pak Colony police soon after the incident. These suspects belonged to the gang involved in Lyari gang war.
The primary accused Noor Mohammad alias Baba Ladla along with his three accomplices, namely Imdad Magsi, Rashid and Mullah Raju have still absconded. The Shersha scrap market incident occurred on October 19, 2010, which not only claimed the lives of 14 persons but also caused huge financial losses.
The Pak Colony police station on October 22 had registered an First Information Report (FIR) No 578/10 under section 302, 324/34, 7 of Anti-Terrorist Act (ATA) against 17 accused including Baba Ladla, Nawab, Pervaiz, Shafi Magsi, Ejaz, Abid, Mullah Raju, Jawad, Iqbal, Akbar, Rasheed alias Waja, Imdad, Asghar, Tufail, his son Tahseen and others. Later, the case was transferred to SIU for further investigation and nominated Inspector Mir Aslam as investigation officer (IO) of the case.
