Scholarships to position holder students: Sindh Assembly passes resolution

Sindh Assembly on Tuesday approved a resolution urging the government to give scholarship to position holder students in matriculation exams. The session of the provincial legislature was held here with Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro in the chair.
As Tuesday was private members' day, MQM MPA Muhammad Aleem-ur-Rehman tabled a resolution, demanding of the government to give scholarship to the brilliant students, who secured top position in matriculation examination. The house unanimously approved the resolution.
Sindh Minister Muzaffar Shujra denied the claims that relief goods donated by foreign countries for floods victims were rotting, saying that relief goods are being provided to the deserving people on daily basis. Shujra told the house that about 84,533 ration bags, 25100 bundles of fabric, 1,29,430 tents, 15 electric generators, 30 water pumps, 50,000 cartons of medicines for children, 33 water purifiers, and such other goods had been distributed among the flood affectees.
He said the government had dispatched between 5,000 and 7000 blankets to each district before the advent of winter for distribution among the flood affectees. Sindh Minister for Law Ayaz Somro conceded that under the 18th Amendment the number of advisors to chief minister should not exceed five, which at present were more than the prescribed number.
He assured the house that the government would implement the amendment to the Constitution and the number of advisors would be reduced to five soon. Opposition member Arif Mustafa Jatoi demanded of the government to implement the 18th Amendment in letter and spirit.
He was not allowed to present amended Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2009 bill. Sindh Minister for Education, Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq told the house that the government had no intention to fire 7187 contract employees. Earlier, Nisar Khohro disallowed a privilege motion by opposition member Sheryar Mehar against IBA director Nisar Siddiqi for what he said spearing false propaganda against him. On this, the opposition led by Jam Madad Ali staged a walk out from the house. However, Arif Jatoi stayed in the house.
