Punjab government has assured maximum security to the traders and removal of encroachments in the main markets of the city, here on Tuesday. The presidents and general secretaries of 50 boards (one board comprises of 20 markets) held a meeting with the District Co-ordination Officer, Ahad Cheema and apprised him of their problems including the rising trend of terrorism, streets crimes, lawlessness, and encroachments in the markets.
The meeting was also attended by President PML (N) Lahore, Mian Marghoob. Talking to Business Recorder after the meeting PML (N) Traders Wing spokesman Mian Shafqat said the trading community plays a pivotal role in the economic stability and development in the country. "The government has assured traders its full co-operation to resolve all outstanding problems and give them a sense of security", he said.
Traders expressed deep concerns over the relentless acts of terrorism in Punjab during the past couple of years. They said successive attacks have increased sense of insecurity among the masses in general and business community in particular.
Shafqat further said that it was decided in the meeting to constitute committees of all stakeholders in the markets to make foolproof security arrangements and maintain peaceful conditions in the trading centres of the provincial metropolis. Among those who attended the meeting were Town Municipal Officers, Naeem Mir, President PML (N) Traders Wing, Mall Road, Babar Mehmood, President PML (N) Traders Wing, Hall Road, Sohail Sarfraz Munj, Chairman PML (N) Traders Wing Lahore, Malik Kamran Saleem, General Secretary Lahore, Malik Tahir, President Shahdrah Board.
