The Lahore High Court on Monday dismissed a petition filed by Chief Executive of Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills seeking disqualification of Governor Punjab Salman Taseer declaring it ineffective after the governor's assassination. Petitioner Mian Waqas Riaz through his counsel A K Dogar submitted that Governor Taseer was not eligible to hold his office as he was doing his private business.
However, Taseer's counsel submitted that petition had become ineffective after the death of his client. Chief Justice LHC, Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, therefore, disposed of the petition declaring it ineffective. The petition was pending in the Lahore High Court for the last one year and the bench was conducting proceedings until it became ineffective after Taseer's death.
