The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced to curtail supply of gas to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) from 60mmcfd to 30mmcfd due to acute gas shortfall. SSGC officials told Business Recorder on Sunday that the company is facing acute shortfall in natural gas these days, mainly due to decreased supplies from gas producers at different fields.
On the other hand, they said, gas demand by domestic consumers has significantly increased due to winter season.
"The acute gas shortfall situation being faced by the SSGC has forced us to curtail supply of gas to the power generation company", the official said. He said that the management of SSGC regrets for inconvenience to both KESC and its domestic customers. The company's management has requested its domestic consumers not to waste the precious fuel anywhere and also to keep their geysers on 'warm' instead of 'hot' and 'very hot'. The company said that as soon as supplies would be restored from gas fields, the SSGC would resume normal gas load to KESC.
