Former National skippers have congratulated Pakistan Football Federation (PFF)'s President Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat for becoming first-ever Pakistani to have been elected to the prestigious post of AFC Executive Committee during 24th Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress.
"It is remarkable achievement and unique feat for PFF. I had seen 16 PFF Presidents in my 59-year footballing career and no one matches the qualities of Faisal who tuned PFF to perfection with his commanding qualities. He showed courage, commitment and day/night service for the game, even overlooking his own hectic schedules," said Zahid Hameed, skipper during SAFF Championship 2008.
Shaukat Mufti, Pakistani skipper in Tehran's 10-Day event and Karachi's President Gold Cup in 1986, said: "Peoples belonging to all the departments of football in Pakistan stands solidly behind PFF Chief for his tremendous accomplishment in such a short span of time."
Tanveer Ahmed, skipper of Pakistan in First Islamic Games 2005, stressed that it is healthy sign as both AFC, FIFA reposed confidence on PFF Chief and awarded him illustrious posts. "Faisal ambition to prop up the game from grassroots level is amazing and now Pakistan is comprised of U13, U14, U16, U19, U21 and U23 teams besides the National team. There is abundance of footballers attached with PFF and I hope that Faisal will continue to promote football in Pakistan as he did during the past seven years with great strides, both for men and women, and due to which Pakistan is being recognised, as respectable soccer-playing nation among FIFA's 208 members," added lanky stopper Tanveer. Zafar Iqbal, captain in SAFF Championship 1993, observed that the Pakistani teams used to undergo big margin defeats in past but now Pakistani teams are no more underdogs in international circuit.
