Two books launched

Mehboob Azmi made common, social and political life the subject of his poetry, criticising the drawback of the society with light humour. These were the unanimous view of the speakers at the launching ceremony of his two poetry books titled "Mukarrar Kahay Baghair" and "Kaisay Kahoon" on his second death anniversary, organised by 'Inheraf', a literary organisation in collaboration with Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL).
Speakers said Mehboob Azmi's poetry is different from other humorous poets, as he selected sensitive issues and brought to the fore inefficiencies of our society through his poems. Ejaz Raheem said that Azmi's poetry take his readers close to reality. The poet, he said, was aware of the rationalised use of his words and phrases to justify the humane characteristics. Rahim was of the view that Azmi's books are milestones in the humorous Urdu literature.
Professor Dr Alamgir Hashmi said that Azmi's poetry contains all the qualities of good humour that has the ability to last for long. The poet has covered all the aspects of the societal aspects of our contemporary life, Dr Hashmi said adding that humanity and socio-economic pressures are altogether are presented with sanity.
Sarfraz Shahid said that Mehboob wrote light poems, ghazals and starting Qat'aat. The major portion of his humorous poetry consists of Qat'aat in which he described social, political and economic themes in a light vein. Dr Nisar Turabi commented that Mehboob managed a special cultural taste in his poetry and never used a word without any cultural reference, which makes his poetry rich. He said that Mehboob has a refined cultured attitude towards the use of words in his poetry.
Anjum Khaliq said unlike other humorous poet, he chose serious national issue to comment through poetry and used poetry as a tool to rectify the deficiencies of society. He has equal command and excellence in different forms of poetry. He called him a poet of Akbar Alahabadi's tradition whose poetry is a mixture of humours and social awareness.
Manzoor-ul-Wahab praised his true and honest personality and said that he was well versed and wrote a parody of Iqbal's "Shikwa" in very concise language. Commenting on the books Tariq Shahid said Mehboob never did poetry only for the sake of poetry. He made it a tool to comment on society and criticise the deficiencies of different disciplines of our life with a sharp taste of humour.
