Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Culture and Inter-Provincial Co-ordination, Mian Iftikhar Hussein has said that successful and peaceful holding of 31st National Games 2010 in the terror-hit province had proved the defeat of terrorists.
This he said, while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of 31st National Games 2010 at Peshawar on Friday night. Sports Minister Syed Aqil Shah also addressed on the occasion. The ceremony besides others was also attended by Shagufta Malik MPA, Secretary Information Azmat Hanif Orakzi, DCO Peshawar Siraj Khan and players of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in large number.
"The image of Pakhtun nation has been enhanced due to this big event and it will prove helpful in removing the label of terrorism against this nation," said the minister adding after successful holding of national games in Peshawar, no one could declare Pakistan unsafe for games and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had practically proved it.
The minister regretted, despite successful holding of this big event, the President of Pakistan, Prime Minister and even the Federal sports Minister did not bother to appreciate and congratulate the provincial government for this great success which definitely disappointed our people.
He thanked the chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, civil administration, police, Pak Army, media, organising committee of the games and other related institutions and people for holding the said event. Mian Iftikhar maintained that sports and culture were the most effective tools against terrorism and we would use these tools for defeating terrorism and purge the land from that menace which had made the lives of the people miserable. He said that we are the followers of non-violence and against the use of bullets adding that we would bring peace here through love and affection.
He declared that his party had offered great sacrifices side by side the security agencies in the war against terror and so far about 500 party workers and office-bearers had embraced martyrdom. Later, the minister gave away cash prizes to five best photo-journalists of the national games, Sajjad Khial (Rs 2000), Shahbaz Butt (Rs 15000/-), Zeshan Liaqat (Rs 10000), Amad Waheed (Rs 7500) and Abdul Majeed Goraya (Rs 5000) for grabbing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th position respectively. He also gave award to the songwriter of 31st National Games Professor Dr Nazeer Tabassum.
