Onion prices fall by Rs 15 to 20

The retail prices of onions in the wholesale market have fallen by rupees 10-15 per kg after imposition of ban on its export to India. However retailers say that the impact of fall in prices in unorganised retail markets would take sometime because local vendors do not buy onions on a daily basis and hence do not reflect on retail rates immediately.
A vegetable retailer said, "I am still selling onions that were purchased two days ago. Prices have fallen a bit in the wholesale market since yesterday but I cannot reduce the retail price because I could lose my profit."
Onion prices in retail stand at Rs 40 to Rs 45 per kg, tomato Rs 90 to Rs 110 per kg, lady finger Rs 90 per kg, carrot Rs 25 to Rs 30 pr kg, green chilly Rs 20 per 100 gram, garlic Rs 400 per kg and ginger Rs 350 per kg, banana Rs 35 to 50 per dozen, lemon Rs 40 to Rs 80per kg, apples Rs 45 to Rs 80 per kg and kinno Rs 40 to Rs 150 per dozen. After the arrival of new crop of potato, its prices registered a decline from Rs 40/Rs 45per kg to Rs 20 to Rs 25 per kg in different retail markets.
