Despite tendering resignations from the federal cabinet, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F)'s former ministers are still occupying the official residences, while their resignations have not yet been accepted.
Soon after the announcement to quit the ruling coalition on December 14 last year, two federal ministers including Minister for Housing Rehmatullah Kakar and Minister for Tourism Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman forwarded their resignations to the Prime Minister on the directives of JUI-F's chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman. While another JUI-F's Minister Azam Swati was sacked by Prime Minister for violating discipline in the aftermath of Hajj scam.
According to sources, the JUI-F ministers including Rehmatullah Kakar and Azam Swati were still residing in their official residences allotted to them in the Ministers' Enclave while Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman was not allotted any residence in the Ministers' Enclave and was residing in Parliament Lodges.
The former ministers said according to rules government employees can reside in their official residences till six months after their retirement from the office. However, when approached, former Minister for Housing Rehmatullah Kakar said that he had returned his official vehicle and added that he would also return the official residence within days.
"I am in Balochistan and will also return the official residence after returning to Islamabad," he added. Kakar further said that they were waiting for the approval of their resignations.
Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman has also returned his official car while Azam Swati was using his personal vehicle and he did use official car. Analysts say that the government is still hopeful that the JUI-F would re-join the ruling coalition, which could also be one of the reasons behind the delay in accepting the resignations of the JUI-F's ministers. The government had made a number of failed attempts to woo back JUI-F into coalition's fold.
