Published Updated

Condemning the assassination of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, MNA of PML-N, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader Major Mujib Ahmed Khan (Retd), PML-Q leader Shaikh Tahir Rasheed, PML-F central Joint Secretary Alhaj Ashraf Qureshi said the incident reflected the dangerous level of intolerance in society.
"It is a sad day for the nation when political leaders are targeted as this reflects the dangerous level of intolerance and polarisation that has pervaded society," he said. They, on Wednesday strongly condemned the assassination of Governor of Punjab Salman Taseer. They said that some evil elements are trying to derail the country through their nefarious designs. They do not want to see development in the country, he added. They expressed their deep sense of grief and sorrow over the tragic death of Governor of Punjab.
They prayed for rest of the departed soul in eternal peace. They termed the incident as "barbaric and against the humanity." They said that it was premature to talk about the real factors and circumstance behind this brutal killing. "His (Taseers's) death will further add to political instability in the country and law and order situation since he was country's important political figure and was recently defending proposed amendments to the blasphemy laws," they added. They further said that he died for the right cause and PPP would keep on supporting the liberal and progressive forces who were struggling to bring harmony in the homeland.
