National Maritime Affairs Co-ordination Committee (NMACC) in its 14th meeting held on Wednesday discussed in threadbare the Revised National Maritime Policy. The meeting held in the Ministry of Defence was chaired by Chairman of the committee, Secretary Defence Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Athar Ali and was attended by high level civilian and military officials from various Ministries and Divisions besides the Naval Headquarters.
The meeting also took up new plans for construction of shipyards in the country and a number of related matters in line with the government's vision to develop maritime sector on fast pace based on scientific grounds. Decisions requiring approval will be put up to federal cabinet for consideration whereas others would be implemented by concerned departments, the meeting decided. NMACC was constituted on May 21, 1986 for consideration of maritime related issues requiring inter-ministerial co-ordination. The Committee held its 13th meeting on May 5, 2010.
