Over 4,000 posts for persons with disabilities in public departments are still vacant for last several months depriving them to earn respectable living. Official sources told newsmen here on Wednesday that concerned departments were asked for the certification of disabled persons at Tehsil Headquarters levels instead of District Headquarters.
They said that a meeting of standing committee on Human Rights in his recommendations suggested that National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) should complete issuance of special cards for all disabled persons (2.49 percent of population) by advertising in Media, through Nadra mobile teams and by special instructions on their offices.
The committee meeting, sources said, also asked the Ministry of Social Welfare to ensure that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) devises action plan for observance of recruitment of disabled persons in private Sector according to quota. Other recommendations made in the meeting required by the Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare/Chief Secretaries to make special Car parking, toilets, and special counters for disabled persons in all places and Ministry of Information to bring awareness and change of attitude in masses for disabled persons.
The meeting decided that special counter marked for Parliamentarians in the airports would be converted for persons with disabilities and immediate actions would be taken by the Civil Aviation Department. It was also decided in the meeting that steps would be taken by the Chief Secretaries/Secretaries and Establishment Secretary to ensure inclusion of special clause in all advertisements in connection with 10 years age relaxation in upper age limit to disabled persons for Government employment in BS 1-15, sources informed.
