Chile's key mine resumes some copper exports

The world's No 3 copper mine, Chile's Collahuasi, has resumed some copper shipments via an alternative port after its key sea terminal was closed more than two weeks ago, a port official told Reuters on Monday. Antofagasta's head of concessions, Alejandro Ahern, said Collahuasi had shipped 11,000 tonnes of copper concentrate on December 26 and planned another delivery this week.
It was not immediately clear if Collahuasi planned to lift force majeure on copper concentrate sales that was triggered by the shutdown of its Patache port terminal. A Collahuasi spokeswoman in Santiago confirmed the mine had resumed some deliveries, but did not say if force majeure on sales could be lifted. Part owner Anglo American said on December 23 that the Patache port terminal could be down for a couple of months after a shiploader accident that killed three workers.
