19th Amendment averted negative politics: Minister

Senior Minister Rahimdad Khan said on Sunday that 19th amendment has averted constitutional confrontation and would strengthen democratic institutions in the country. Talking to APP here Sunday, he said that 19th amendment has buried the politics of confrontation, negativity and would create constitutional harmony in the country.
It is the gift of the present government to people on a New Year, he added. Khan said it was the dream of Shaheed - e- Jamahriyat, as she wanted restoration of 1973 Constitution. "The landmark amendment had fully exposed political actors and they are now issueless. The elements, who were trying for clash among organs of the state, would be highly disappointed and are now facing faces from people." It has further cleared the jurisdiction of Parliament and Judiciary and the government would now give special focus on solution of people's problems.
Congratulating the members of parliament, the Constitutional Reforms Committee, all political parties and democratic forces over the unanimous approval of the 19th Amendment, he said it would bring constitutional harmony and is a momentous step towards Constitutional Rule in the country.
Terming the approval of the 19th Amendment as a vindication of the matchless struggle by PPP for democracy, he said, it showed the political wisdom, maturity, patriotism and commitment of political leadership to strengthen democratic institutions. The government is now giving special focus on addressing public grievances and resolving their basic problems and that working on a comprehensive strategy to counter major inherited challenges, including price hike, unemployment, loadshedding, poverty eradication, water shortage and energy crisis. He said it was a historic moment in the country's parliamentary history and the legislators did a great job and rose up to the expectations of the nation. He said Asif Ali Zardari is the first President who himself requested for amendments to the Constitution and now spirit of the 1973 Constitution has been restored in original form and pledge of Benazir Bhutto with masses has been fulfilled by the present government.
