Federal Minister for Population Welfare, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said Pakistan International Airline (PIA) is considering constructing a four-star hotel in Sialkot and has asked Sialkot airport management to identify a suitable piece of land for the construction of the hotel.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of "Cargo Complex" Sialkot International Airport on Saturday she said that government was committed to provide grant of Rs 25 crore for ensuring development of Sialkot Airport. The minister disclosed that PIA would operate its Dammam-Sialkot flight from January 5th adding that more flights would be started from Sialkot for making Sialkot International Airport complete successful.
She said that Sialkot International Airport had become an identity of people of Sialkot globally. The private sector of Sialkot had set a unique precedent by constructing this airport, she said. The minister disclosed that a strategy was being evolved for promoting women entrepreneurship in the country and Sialkot would be made role model district of women entrepreneurship. She stressed the trade bodies that they should encourage women entrepreneurship in the city. At this critical juncture the involvement of womenfolk industrial sector had become more imperative to cope with the economic warfare, she observed.
The minister said that gap between import and export was increasing rapidly as a result of which people were confronting with the menace of price hike in the country. The PPP leadership she said was mobilising all resources and channels for developing consensus with all political leaders on various national and international issues. Dr Awan urged political leaders that they should join hands with the government for bringing out the country out of crisis. The newly elected Chairman Sialkot International Airport, Syed Mukhtar Bokhari also spoke.
