People in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Saturday has expressed concern over surge in petroleum prices, as they are already suffering from huge prices of the basic commodities of daily life. Government had raised the Petroleum Oil and Lubricants (POL) prices up to Rs 7.69 per litre thus making transport unaffordable for the people who are getting no compensation on the daily food commodities.
"This surge in POL price is another bomb shell for the commoners who are already living hand to mouth due to high inflation", said Aasia who is a primary teacher in a government school. Asim who is a student said " Commuters were already facing problems due to shortage of proper transport in federal capital and now this surge in prices will make mobility out of their reach".
Thousands of passengers travel daily between Rawalpindi and Islamabad by public transport and now this surge in POL prices will affect them a lot. While talking to this agency, a taxi driver Nasir said " My taxi is on petrol and recent surge in prices is a bomb shell not only for me but for all those whose sources of income are limited". Shazia, a housewife said " Now price of other commodities will increase automatically. It has become very difficult to manage budget in same salary as prices are increasing on daily basis".
