We won't become part of 'puppet show', says Nawaz

Chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif on Thursday made it clear that his party would neither back a corrupt government nor become part of the ongoing political 'puppet show'.
"Our policy of supporting democracy should not be misconceived as a support to a corrupt government," he said, adding, "We will not become part of a puppet show, as we have had buried such dirty politics once for all." Addressing a party function at Expo Centre, the PML-N chief said, "those crying for revolution are part of the government for last three years."
Without naming MQM, Nawaz said such political parties endorsed both the 17th Amendment and the 18th amendment. His remarks were followed by PML-N workers sloganeering of shame, shame. He We won't become part of 'puppet show': Nawaz said such parties should be questioned about their political ideology. He said rhetorical politics would not pay anyone in the long run. Pakistan was not created to become slave of the establishment, he added.
He said the country cannot afford marital law anymore, as four martial laws have already ruined the country. He said his party had learnt lessons from the past mistakes. Nawaz Sharif said the General Yahya, who disintegrated Pakistan, was buried with national flag. Terming it a misfortune, he said the Bangladeshis put Pakistani flag off despite the fact that they had led Pakistan movement.
Referring to the Hamood-ur-Rehman Commission, he said the report concluded that the martial law was the cause of Dhaka's fall and the country could have been saved from a disaster if democracy was not derailed. "It is unfortunate that the country's house is not in order but the PML-N is committed to put it back on the track," he added. He criticised President Zardari for not fully implementing Charter of Democracy (CoD). He added that PML-N was doing politics of principles and not politics of power.
Nawaz expressed concern over the situation of Balochistan and asked the government to form a powerful committee comprising national personalities to find a way out of present situation. He deplored that Kashmir issues was being ignored, calling for resolving the issue in accordance with the UN resolutions, as improvement in Indo-Pak relations is not possible without resolution of this issue.
PML-N activists from Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Paktunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and different parts of Punjab participated in the function. Raja Farooq Haider, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Ahsan Iqbal, Syed Ghous Ali Shah, Sanaullah Zehri and others also spoke on the occasion.
The participants of the function through different resolutions demanded immediate release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, halting US drone attacks, end of target killings in Karachi and pacifying angry Baloch leaders for bringing them back to mainstream. Earlier, some PML-N activists had a scuffle with security officials. Hamza Shahbaz had to intervene to bring the situation under control.
