Sindh government is committed to eradicate polio and would take every possible step to make the province polio free while in this connection President Zardari has ordered to finalise National Emergency Action Plan 2011 to uproot polio from Pakistan.
These views were expressed by Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Information, Sharmila Faruqui here on Tuesday to a delegation of doctors and field workers who visited her office. On this occasion doctors informed the provincial advisor about their performance. Sharmila Faruqui assured them for her full co-operation.
Talking to the delegation, the advisor said the government had focused on high-risk districts such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Sanghar, Kambar, Shikarpur, Nausheroferoze, Kashmore, Khairpur and Shaheed Benazirabad, where special teams had been designated. Farooqui said the government was providing monitoring and technical management with social mobilisation and advocacy to the field workers regarding eradication of polio.
"Mass vaccination drive has been launched with the co-ordination of World Health Organisation (WHO) and NGOs to make Sindh free from polio," She said. The advisor said that it is the need of hour that all sections of the society to come forward and join hands for this noble cause. "Environmental conditions, sewage system and malnutrition are also important cause of spreading polio and it is the duty of media to create awareness among masses in this regard," Farooqui added.
