The corrupt politicians have no right to appoint judges of the superior courts and the 19th Amendment is a conspiracy against independence of judiciary, Imran Khan, Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) said at a "Meet the Press" programme here on Tuesday.
He said appointment of judges through a parliamentary committee was an attempt to maintain malicious influence over the judiciary. "Such attempts to control judiciary will create problems in dispensation of justice, therefore, Tehrik-e-Insaf has serious reservations about appointment of judges through a committee having representatives of land mafia as its members," he added.
Imran Khan said that the corrupt parliamentarians should not be involved in the appointment of judges. He said that 61 percent members of parliament did not pay any income tax, while the remaining pay token amounts. This indicates showed the character and qualities of these parliamentarians, he added. He added that PTI supported the Chief Justice of Supreme of Pakistan, who was exposing corruption in the society, therefore his hands should not be tied up.
He maintained that the present government had broken all records of corruption and miss-management as the budget deficit has reached a trillion, while their personal assets increased manifolds. Instead of burdening the common man with new taxes, politicians should be brought into the tax net.
