Following intelligence reports that some miscreants might attempt to disrupt the celebrations of birth day anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Christmas festival, law enforcement agencies on Saturday morning rounded up about 300 people in a search operation conducted in different slum areas of the metropolis, who were released later after interrogation.
According to sources, the search operation was initiated on intelligence reports that some miscreants were planning to thwart the celebration of the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam and Christmas festival. In wake of the said information, heavy contingents of Police and Rangers were deployed in Orangi town, Banaras, Shersha, Baldia, Malir, Gadap town, etc to start search operation.
The law enforcers besieged these areas and started house to house search, during which some 300 people were detained. Moreover, the police sources said that some of the detained persons were booked on charges of drugs trafficking, while all others detainees were released after formal interrogation. According to eyewitnesses, these areas were besieged and law enforces taken away people blindfold and hands tied.
When contacted, DIG East Commandant Shaukat confirmed that police conducted search operation on a tip-off and some suspected people were rounded for investigation. He further said all the detainees were allowed to go home after formal procedure.
