Supplies of Russian oil to Europe via the Druzhba pipeline have been restored on Friday after the link caught fire two days ago, a source at Russian oil pipeline monopoly Transneft told Reuters. "We support the necessary level of flows," he said. Earlier a pipeline operator manager in Belarus said the oil deliveries to Germany and Poland "performed according to schedule", Itar-Tass news agency reported.
Russian oil flows to Poland and Germany were reduced after maintenance work caused a fire on a pipeline section in Belarus, raising the risk of disruptions during a cold snap that has boosted demand in Europe. Around 40 million tonnes (about 800,000 barrels per day) of Russian oil is pumped annually via Belarus to Europe through the pipeline, which caught fire on Wednesday night on the link between the refinery town of Mozyr and Brest on the Polish border.
Russia and Belarus are yet to agree on 2011 gas prices. European customers get some 40.45 billion cubic metres (bcm) of Russian gas per year, across the Belarus territory, which represents about one third the level of Ukrainian transits, main route of the fuel to the Europe from Russia.
