Foolproof security arrangements made for Christmas: IGP

A foolproof security apparatus has been installed in the federal capital on Christmas and special checking would be done outside churches, said Kaleem Imam, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, here on Friday.
Additional deployment of police contingents has been ensured, greenbelts areas around the churches are being completely searched and Mobile Eagle, Falcon squads and police commandos are patrolling in the areas, Imam said while addressing the Christian community at a ceremony and luncheon arranged at Police Lines Headquarters in connection with Christmas.
Christian employees of Islamabad police were especially invited in the ceremony, while DIG Hqrs Kamaluddin Tipu, SSP Hqrs Ahmad Mukarram, DSP Hqrs Ashraf Ali Shah along with other police officials attended the event. The IGP said security at public places including parks has been made more effective and extra deployment made at all religious places of Christians while intensive patrolling will be conducted in Islamabad. He added that police commandos equipped with sophisticated weapons and wireless sets would be deployed outside churches, adding personnel in plain clothes will also be deployed with sniffer dogs at these places.
He praised the role of people belonging to minorities serving in police saying that they are contributing significantly to the force. "They have a great role in promotion of soft and people-friendly policing in the capital, which will be always commended. All Pakistanis are brothers and there is no discrimination among the people. Minorities' role is greatly acknowledged in the development of this country as they are accomplishing various assignments with great responsibility", he maintained.
Imam pointed out that Christians and other minority communities' members are performing in various wings of Islamabad Police like Special Branch, police stations and as police commandos. Their contribution in maintaining peace and ensuring security in the city is greatly appreciable, he added. He said there is no discrimination in Islamabad Police as the Station House Officer of Women Police Station Sadaf Basharat hails from the same community and performing the important duty with great responsibility. "We are with you on this happy occasion and your duties in Islamabad police are acknowledged," he said. He also said there is a need to promote interfaith harmony and the ceremony has been arranged with the same spirit.
